Astrium, the developer of the Globalstar satellite dispenser has successfully completed testing for the second generation Globalstar satellite constellation. Arianespace headed the qualification commission testing the dispenser. This successful test ends the dispenser’s development phase.
The dispenser holds the satellites in place during launch ensuring the satellites stay in position at a precisely timed moment during the mission. Astrium’s attachment and separation fittings are a patented technology of sophisticated pyrotechnic devices used in the dispenser. The Astrium dispenser will allow the Soyuz rocket to carry six of the Globalstar second generation satellites.
Astrium is a recognized world leader in the development of composite structures for launch vehicles and satellites as well as antenna reflectors.
After this successful test Astrium has all the elements to develop the dispenser for the Ariane 5 that will launch the Galileo satellites four sometime in 2012. It also will move forward with the development of the dual launch structure for the future of Ariane 5.
