Inmarsat Planning for the Future

The Inmarsat satellite communications company has a great deal going on this summer.  Inmarsat has sealed several important distribution deals for its new IsatPhone Pro satellite phone.  Inmarsat has partnered with eleven distributors covering all major areas of the world.  AST and China Telecom are included in these distributors.

The IsatPhone Pro will be Inmarsat’s first venture into the handheld satellite phone market.  Their pioneering technology will allow the IsatPhone Pro to be used on planes and virtually anywhere on the planet where cellular and landline phones may not have access.  Industries which include oil, gas and mining will be greatly benefited with this technology.  The IsatPhone Pro made its first successful test call using this new technology in January 2010.  Continued testing indicates the launch of the IsatPhone Pro will stay on schedule for June of 2010.

It is expected the IsatPhone Pro will be very aggressively priced to compete with the Iridium satellite phone which is currently the only handheld satellite phone that provides worldwide coverage.  This competition should bring pricing down and more units will be sold into the market.

Inmarsat’s core business continues to grow.  Revenue increased by 10% to $695,000.  Part of these strong sales came from Inmarsat’s Swift 64 high speed satellite data service for aircraft and the marine industry.
